‘Tis the season for weddings

The weather is getting nicer and summer is just around the corner. For those getting married it is the season of weddings. If you are on a budget don’t forget to stop by your local Goodwill Store for cool jewelry for you bridesmaid dresses, vintage vases for your tables, or even your wedding dress. Check out the photo above of a dress that was found at Goodwill. You never know what you will find!

A cool way to find out what to donate!

Needing a cool way to figure out what you really wear vs. what you do not wear? Check out this blog from a Goodwill donator. Every January she turns her hangers facing the same direction. When she wears that article of clothing she turns the hanger the opposite way. By June, whatever is still facing the original way she donates to Goodwill. A quick and easy way to see what you have worn within the past couple of months and what you most likely will never wear! Click here to see how she does it!

Time to clean out your donation station!

Get ready for the New Year by cleaning out the remainder of the old year. Go through your closets and weed out those clothes that you haven’t worn all year. Take inventory of your basement and get rid of old electronics that you will never use. Make a donation station in your house of things that need to go to Goodwill and remember if you donate by December 31, you can still claim it on your 2011 taxes!

Remember to Give Back this Holiday Season

As the holiday season moves closer and closer, let’s not forget about giving back to others. Clean out old toys, clothes, furniture and electronic equipment to make room for the new things you will be receiving this holiday season. Remember to donate your gently used things to your nearest Goodwill Store and Donation Center. By doing this you will be helping those with disabilities and other barriers to independence in achieving their fullest potential as workers and members of the broader community.

Give the Gift of Transportation

Thinking about getting rid of your car before the winter? Don’t trade it in to the dealer, donate it! Goodwill’s Wheels for Work program takes donated cars and gives them to low-income working parents. Imagine not having a car and relying on the kindness of others or public transportation to get you everywhere you need to be. The recipients of the cars fill out applications and are required to take financial and car maintenance classes. Plus your car donation is tax deductable. Upon donating the car, Goodwill Keystone Area will provide you with the proper IRS paperwork. Give the gift of transportation this holiday season, for both yourself and someone else!
